This birch bark basket was created by Dene of Fort Liard artist, Karen Cumberland. She has first started creating these baskets as a child, and is known to make some of the most incredibly detailed work and is a highly skilled artist.

Fort Liard is a small community near the legendary Nahanni National park Reserve in the southwest corner of the Northwest Territories.

Hand gathered birch bark (which doesn’t harm the tree) decorated with dyed porcupine quills.
