Maxine Brown is a mixed First Nations and settler Research Coordinator at the Centre for Wise Practices in Indigenous Health at Women’s College Hospital. She grew up in the Peterborough area and relocated to Toronto 6 years ago for university and work opportunities. She is an MA Candidate at York University studying Social Anthropology with a focus on institutional policy and procedure and its application in a diversity of settings. In her work, she largely focuses on Indigenous data sovereignty and governance, and its operationalization in research projects with Indigenous communities. She is now exploring the importance of collaborative research projects with Indigenous communities, prioritizing community wants and needs. Her interests are Indigenous mental health and wellness, data sovereignty, education, policy discursive framings and institutional structures.
